Flights

East Midlands Airport is the nearest to Nottingham, with links by bus or taxi to the University Park Campus.

A larger choice of flights is available to Birmingham International Airport and Manchester Airport.  Both these airports link by train with Nottingham city-centre.

Information about different types of train tickets is available from National Rail.  Train tickets are usually cheaper if purchased in advance.  The Train Line provides useful information about buying UK train tickets from overseas.

For flights arriving at London airports, the train to Nottingham departs from London St Pancras Railway Station.

The University Park Campus is 4 miles out of the city-centre and can easily be reached by bus or taxi.

More information about how to reach Nottingham can be found on the University's website.

Buses

Bus tickets can be purchased from the driver at the start of your journey.  For some services you will require the exact amount of your fare, so please ensure you have plenty of change (coins) available.  Bus numbers and destinations are usually displayed across the front of the bus.  Comprehensive information about bus services to University Park Campus is available on the University's website

Tips for travelling by bus:

• please buy your ticket from the driver
• there is no need to validate your ticket
• for some bus services you may need the exact change
• check signs for the bus number you need to make sure you are waiting in the correct place
• to request a bus pick you up, stand near the kerbside and hold out your arm
• to request a bus let you off press the 'stop' button located inside the bus or stand by the exit door
• single tickets are for travel from A to B
• return tickets are for travel from A to B to A (in the same day only) but please ask the driver about any restrictions with your return ticket as 'night buses' are usually not included

Trains

Train tickets can be purchased from ticket offices at the station or some also have ticket vending machines.  Please buy your ticket before you board the train and retain your ticket for the entire journey.  At some stations, you need to show your ticket to exit the station.  Standard and first class tickets are available for most journeys.  Sometimes buying two single tickets is cheaper than a return ticket.  Advance tickets are generally cheaper but are valid only for the train you specify.  More detailed information about different types of tickets is available from National Rail

Taxis

You will usually find taxis waiting at the railway station and at designated ‘taxi ranks’ in the city centre. You can also stop a taxi in the street by waving your arm when its yellow 'For Hire' sign is illuminated. Taxis must display a notice which shows their licence and the number of passengers they are allowed to carry. The amount of money you pay for your journey is calculated by a meter which should be clearly visible inside the taxi. Fares are more expensive in the evenings, at weekends and during public holidays. Any gratuity you wish to give is in addition to this amount.

Minicab or private hire cars are pre-booked taxis. These are often cheaper and don’t have meters so you should set the price before travelling. When you book a car you will need to say where you want picking up and taking to. If you are catching a train/ plane you can tell them what time you depart and ask their advice about a suitable pick-up time.

• D&G Cars - 0115 9 500 500
